June 27, 2025 - The Financial Market Commission (CMF) announces that it authorized two special corporations - Mastercard Administradora Chile S.A. and Visa Chile Sociedad Administradora de Cámara de Compensación de Pagos de Bajo Valor S.A. - to begin operating their Low-Value Payment Clearinghouses pursuant to the regulations governing such entities. Both companies are now enrolled in the Commission's Registry of Low-Value Payment Clearinghouse Managers.
This authorization means that the settlement of retail payments made with cards regulated by the Central Bank of Chile is now part of the CMF's supervisory perimeter, thereby ensuring operations cleared and settled through these clearinghouses are final, irrevocable, and binding for their participants in line with the best international practices.
This is a major achievement that supplements the breakthrough made in 2024 through the authorization of the payment clearinghouse managed by Centro de Compensación Automatizado S.A., which incorporated wire transfers to the system. Payments made with cards issued by MasterCard and Visa will now be cleared and settled by their own clearingouses.
